6 Days – Machame Route

Kilimanjaro’s Most Scenic Trek

The Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route”, is one of the most popular and successful paths to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is renowned for its stunning scenery and excellent acclimatization profile, following the mountaineering principle: “climb high, sleep low.”

This route features a steeper initial ascent and a dramatic climb to Lava Tower (~4,600 m / 15,000 ft) before descending to Barranco Camp (~3,900 m / 12,700 ft) on the same day. This strategy improves acclimatization and increases summit success rates.

Unlike the Marangu Route, the Machame trek requires camping in tents, carried and set up by porters. The journey is best completed in 7 days, though it can be done in 6.
